GAD ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORTS

The Philippines has made significant strides in promoting gender-responsive governance, primarily through the efforts of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW). Established in 1975, the PCW has been instrumental in integrating gender perspectives into the formulation and implementation of national policies, plans, and programs.

Magna Carta of Women

A landmark law that guarantees the rights of Filipino women, ensuring their protection from discrimination and violence. This law mandates the inclusion of gender perspectives in all government programs and allocates at least 5% of government budgets to Gender and Development (GAD) programs.

Gender Mainstreaming

The PCW leads the national strategy of integrating gender considerations into all government functions. This involves capacity-building for government agencies, development of gender-responsive policies, and monitoring compliance through the Gender and Development (GAD) Plan and Budget.

Capacity Building and Training

The PCW provides training and technical assistance to government agencies, local government units, and other stakeholders to enhance their capacity to implement gender-responsive programs.

Local GAD Focal Points

The PCW supports the establishment of GAD Focal Point Systems in local government units (LGUs) to ensure that gender issues are addressed at the grassroots level.

Gender Equality in Leadership

The commission promotes women’s participation in leadership roles within government, encouraging policies that support women’s empowerment and leadership.
