CITY GOVERNMENT EDUCATES EMPLOYEES ABOUT WORKPLACE GENDER- SENSITIVITY, KEY PROTECTIVE LAWS

To achieve a respectful, inclusive, and safe working environment, the City Government of San Fernando, La Union, through the Gender and Development (GAD) Office and the City Legal Office (CLO), launched a series of lectures on “Safe Space, Strong Voices: Training-Lecture on Gender Sensitivity and Key Protective Laws (R.A. 11313, 7877, 10175)” held at the Gregorio “Bunog” R. Hufano Session Hall on May 21, 2025.

The pilot batches included the General Services Office, Office for Public Safety, Office of the City Civil Registrar, City Environment and Natural Resources, and Office of the City Engineer.

The activity started with gender-sensitivity training followed by a discussion on the salient features of the Republic Act (R.A.) 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act or Bawal Bastos Law. Moreover, the subsequent lecture focused on the legal aspects of R.A. 7877, also known as the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995, covering the provisions and its implications.

During the last lecture, the provisions of R.A. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, were discussed. Practical strategies to combat various types of cyber-attacks were also shared in the event.
Among the resource speakers who shared their knowledge and expertise on the topics were Dr. Leizel L. Licayan, GAD Specialist III of the GAD Office; Ms. Maria Theresa M. Navarro, Supervising Administrative Officer of the GAD Office; Atty. Jestherin G. Baliton, Administrative Officer V of the CLO; and PMAJ Franklin A. Lacana, Chief of the Operation Management Division of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU) 1.
